KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC)’s regional office in southern Kandahar province was reopened on Monday, thanks the provincial council’s efforts.
The IEC regional office was shut by protesting Wolesi Jirga candidates about 20 days back by erecting a tent in protest in the office front.
Aziz Ahmad Azizi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the protesting candidates reopened the IEC’s regional office after successful talks with the PC members.
He said the office opening ceremony was attended by a delegation of the Independent Election Complaints Commission (IECC), provincial IECC’s head, FIFA and PC members.
He said people were excepting the election results after serious investigation into alleged fraud and rigging.
Meanwhile, Haroon Kaliwal, the Kandahar IEC’s deputy head, told Pajhwok that from tomorrow the IEC employees would start their work after the 20-day blockade.
He said the IECC had promised with protesting candidates that their complaints would be thoroughly investigated and their results would be announced transparently.
