JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province have been trying to arrest a number of individuals, including a Wolesi Jirga candidate, in a land-grabbing case, officials said on Tuesday.
The Nangarhar police have asked the Attorney General Office (AGO) to place the accused persons, including candidate Haji Gul Murad Arab, on no-fly list.
Nangarhar governor Hayatullah Hayat told a press conference at the police headquarters here that 25 hectors of land belonging to the Canalization Department had been allotted on lease, but some individuals had sold the land to peope for building homes.
The governor said the court had scrapped the lease contract and now police were searching for those involved in selling the land.
He said some of the accused persons had appeared in the police headquarters to explain their posision, but others, who were powerful, were refusing to appear.
Nangarhar police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sanai Stanikzai said summon had been issued to those who had purchased the land in the limits of the Kabul Stand area.
He said some of the accused appeared to face investigation but Haji Gul Murad, Haji Farooq, Eng. Abdi, Haji Qadar and some others did not appear and police were trying to arrest them.
He said the AGO had been requested to place these indiviidals on the exit control list and they would be arrested wherever they were in the country.
Pajhwok tried to contact Haji Gul Murad, but failed. A source close to Murad said the candidate was abroad in connection with his business.
However, the question remains how Gul Murad was able to nominate himself as a candidate in the Wolesi Jirga election depiste land grab allegations against him.
