PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Wolesi Jirga candidates in northern Baghlan province on Saturday warned they would emerge on roads if votes cast without biometric verification were not invalidated.
The hopefuls issued the warning while addressing a joint presser in Pul-i-Khumri city, the provincial capital. Gen. Habib Andrabi, a Wolesi Jirga candidate from Baghlan, said the election process did not go well in the province.
He said: “This was for the third time that elections in Markaz-i-Baghlan, Tala Barfak, Nehrian, Barka and Doshi districts were not convincing and if our demand is not met until tomorrow, we will go for a huge movement.”
Gulali Khird, another Wolesi Jirga candidate, said no one was hearing their voice. She said non-biometric votes should be invalided because most of ballot boxes were stuffed for specific candidates.
A number of other candidates expressed similar views and asked the government to resolving the issue as soon as possible.
They urged the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in a resolution letter that their demand should be met until tomorrow.
IEC officials recently said non-biometric votes would be also counted valid if confirmed by observers and suspicious ballots would be separated.
