HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) office in western Herat province on Tuesday announced quarantining votes from 19 polling stations of six districts over alleged rigging and fraud.
The complaints body says votes could be invalidated if fraud and rigging proved.  IECC head Amir Mohammad Muzafar told Pajhwok Afghan News suspicious votes could be invalidated if evidence of corruption and fraud was provided.
He said they had quarantined ballots from Shindand, Rabat Sangi, Kushk Kohna, Chest-i-Sharif, Zawal and Adreskan districts and these votes would be recounted in presence of observers in order to separate fraudulent and transparent votes.
Separately, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said in the initial stage votes from Lyci Mehri, Lyci Maleka Jalali, Lyci Pul Rangena and Masjid Chahar Yar Kubar polling stations would rechecked in the presence of election observers and representatives of political parties.
IEC spokesman Ahmad Shah Qanuni said votes from these polling stations would be investigated or recounted where fraud had been alleged.
Officials of the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) demanded separation of fraud and transparent votes.  TEFA representative Shaheer Ahmad Yar said the vote recount could delay the results.
