HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC)’s regional office in western Herat province on Sunday accused a Wolesi Jirga candidate of offering the office 1$ million in bribe to declare him winner in the election, but the candidate rejected the allegation.
Ahmad Shah Qanoni, IEC head for Herat province, told Pajhwok Afghan News some close figures of candidate Farhad Majidid told the IEC’s regional office’s official their candidate had obtained less votes and his honor was in risk.
He said the candidate’ close friends offered one million $ to the commission’s officials in bribe to declare him winner in the Wolesi Jirga election.
After rejecting his offer, the candidate was trying make a conspiracy against the IEC Herat office, he added.
However, Farhad Majidi rejected the bribe allegation against him. He told a press conference here that he would move judicial organs against the IEC Herat office.
He said soon a joint coalition of 100 candidates would be created to their voices against rigging that took place in the Wolesi Jirga Oct 20 polls in the province.
