PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least eight people were killed and 45 others wounded in incidents happened during the Wolesi Jirga elections in northern Baghlan province on Saturday, officials said.
Baghlan deputy public health director, Dr. Abdul Alim Ghafari, told Pajhwok Afghan News that eight people killed and 45 injured in election related security incidents were evacuated to hospitals in Baghlan today.
He said one person was killed and seven others wounded in twin blasts in Pul-I-Khumri, the provincial capital.
On the other hand, Eng. Shekil, a resident of Kilagi area of Doshi district of Baghlan, said four people were killed and six others wounded when a mortar hit a house in the area this afternoon.
He said three other people were killed and five others wounded in another similar incident in Kaftar Khana area of the district.
Khairuddin Yousufzai, a resident of Pul-I-Khumri city, said that three people were wounded during a physical dispute happened after a candidate trying to use people’s votes in his favor in Ghro Shakh area of Baghlan-I-Markazi district.
Baghlan security officials declined to comment on the incidents.
The Wolesi Jirga elections hold nationwide except in Kandahar and Ghazni provinces today, October 20.
