KABUL (Pajhwok): A 20-day long campaigning by candidates contesting Saturday’s parliamentary elections will come to an end midnight tonight, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said on Wednesday.
The IEC said no candiate will have the right to campaign beyond midnight tonight deadline and legal action would be taken against offenders.
Mohammad Rafi Siddiqui, IEC’s media commission director, told a press conference here that the 20-day camapiagn period would come to an end at 12am.
He urged Wolesi Jirga candidates to collect their electoral posts as early as possible and warned of legal action over violations of law during the silence period.
Sidddiqui urged candidates not to allow their observers to take electoral materials to polling stations on the Election Day.
