KABUL (Pajhwok): Political parties and alliances on Thursday stressed over the proper usage of the biometric system during the election and warned to reject the outcome if the biometric system was not properly used.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) held a consultative meeting with political parties and alliances today regarding the use of the biometric system on Election Day.
Earlier, IEC spokesman Syed Hafeezullah Hashami said that there was a need for 22,000 sets of biometric system out of which 4,400 were handed over to the IEC and the remaining 17,600 would be provided in the coming eight days.
He said the biometric sets were fully equipped and would be dispatched to polling centres and stations in districts properly.
“Administration and control of the biometric system is the authority of the commission and no other institution would be allowed to interfere,” he said.
Noor Rahman Akhlaqi, the representative of Jamiat-i-Islami political party, asked the IEC members to use the system in line to its commitments in order to prevent rigging and fraud on Election Day.
He said if the biometric system was not properly used political parties would reject the results of the election.
Ahmad Javed Rasouli, head of the Central Statistic Organization’s (CSO) information and statistic department, said so far 4,400 sets of biometric system handed over to the IEC and the complete package would be handed over in the coming eight days.
He said after a final decision on the biometric system, one package of the biometric system would be dispatched to 5,100 polling centres and 21,000 stations country-wide.
Rasouli said the biometric system was capable to take picture of a voter, his/her two fingerprints and identify Tazkera and sticker in 40 seconds.
He added after completion of this process the same system would print another sticker for voters which will be stippled with the ballot paper. Hashami said the second sticker is readable only by the biometric system.
“This system belongs to a German company which could be made operational online and offline. It has 10 hours power storage with additional power bank which could supply the system electricity for another 71 hours.”
