KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior Ministry of Interior official on Saturday ordered the police to use force if necessary in maintaining security of election offices.
Senior deputy interior minister for security Akhtar Mohammad Ibrahimi in a video clip said no one has the right to close election offices.
Supporters of the Coalition for Salvation of Afghanistan on Saturday closed the provincial Independent Election Commission (IEC) offices in Kandahar, Balkh and Herat provinces.
Ibrahimi said the government in Afghanistan had come to power with people’s mandate and people had the right to protest in accordance with the law.
But closing offices of the IEC was against the law, he said, adding political parties and groups could register their complaints through legal means.
