KABUL (Pajhwok): Independent Election Commission (AIEC) chief Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani on Saturday resigned from his post, an official said.
Deputy presidential spokesman, Syed Zafar Hashimi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Nuristani’s resignation was accepted by President Ashraf Ghani.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said Nuristani presented his resignation letter to the president after realizing the country’s political and social situation and for the sack of national interest and returning to the social prosperity and stability of Afghanistan.
President Ghani also similarly realizing the political situation of the country had approved his resignation, the statement added.
Nuristani has been heading the electoral body since Aug. 03, 2013.
