SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The prosecutor for northern Jawzjan province on Wednesday alleged gunmen of Provincial Council (PC) members had beaten him. He closed the department to protest the attack.
Prosecutor General Hafizullah Khaliqyar said some provincial council members and more than 10 gunmen forced their way into his office and demanded their “illegal demands” be met. 
He said the public representatives demanded the release of some political and criminal detainees -- an illegal step that he refused to take. Khaliqyar alleged the PC members had earlier got released a prisoner.
Soon after being discharged from hospital, the official told journalists here the armed men kept beating him with rifle butts till he fell unconscious.
Maulvi Abdul Hai Hayat, the provincial council chief, and others member could not be reached for comments.
