د ختيځ په نا امنو سيمو کې پوځي عمليات پيلېږي

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A senior Afghan military official on Monday said operations were being launched in insecure areas in eastern provinces.
Gen. Mohammad Ali Shujai, the 201 Selab Military Corps deputy commander, told this to Pajhwok Afghan News on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the country’s 96th Independence Day at the corps headquarters in eastern Nangarhar province.
The general said security forces had effectively prevented insurgent activities as a result of wisely-planned operations.
Other security officials from Nangarnar and neighbouring Laghman province also attended the ceremony, during which appreciation letters were given away to some military officers.
“The insurgents attempted to carry out attacks in many areas, but we frustrated their designs on the basis of intelligence reports,” said Gen. Shujai, citing the prevention of an insurgent attack in Marawara district of eastern Kunar province as an example.
He said both the Taliban and the Islamic State or Daesh groups posed threat to security, but they could not stand ground against the Afghan forces.
“The operation in Khogyani is successful because many areas have been cleared of the presence of militants. Now Khogyani, Hesarak and Sherzad districts are secure, roads are open while the operation is still ongoing.”
To a question, the military official said: “Police posts will be increased in the Khogyani district if needed. We plan similar operations in other areas and we also plan to deploy our troops in other areas.”
Addressing the ceremony, 301 border zone commander Brig. Gen. Wali Khan Shinwari recalled Ghazi Amanullah Khan’s noble achievements and urged the Afghans to work for national unity.
“The history tells us the ongoing war in Afghanistan is not ours. We have been victimised for the interests of our neighours. So it is hoped the Afghans stay united.”
The high-ranking border police officials also said the Afghan forces had the ability to defend their areas.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nasir Kamawal, the deputy head of the provincial council, said the Afghans, particularly the national security forces, should defend their motherland, keeping in mind the past experiences.
Some religious scholars also attended the ceremony. They announced their support for the Afghan forces and asked them not to stay silent against the enemy in the defence of their country.
