CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): The residents of Charikar, the provincial capital, and some districts of central Parwan province complain about increasing insecurity and activities of illegal armed men.
Abdul Qahar Majeedi, a resident of Syagard district, told Pajhwok Afghan News militants had intensified their activities in parts of the town and the nearby Shinwari district.
He said security forces lacked a strategy to counter activities of rebels who were becoming strong with each passing day.
In addition, he said, the presence of illegal armed men and their atrocities contributed to insecurity in the province.
Majeedi said government officials had long been pledging to dismantle illegal armed groups, a promise never materialised.
He did not know the reason why illegal armed men could not be controlled, but a local official, who wished to go unnamed, said illegal armed groups enjoyed the support of high-ranking government officials and security forces were unable to disarm them.
Earlier, foreign troops in a nighttime raid destroyed an arms cache belonging to a Jamiat-i-Islami political party leader.
The raid sparked angry protests by hundreds of individuals who took to the streets in Charikar, shouting slogans against foreign forces.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah had termed the foreign forces raid an action against Mujahidin and said he would not allow anyone to plot against mujahidin.
Qari Ewaz, a resident of Pashan locality in Charikar, said: “The security situation is deteriorating with each passing day. Clashes often erupt between rebels and security forces twice in a week in the provincial capital.”
Mohammad Mujib Shorash, a member of the provincial council, also complained insecurity was growing. He said the Bagram district witnessed multiple incidents of violence in one week.
Shorash cited the killing of a former jihadi commander, Wasim, and the police chief among some of the high profile incidents in recent times.
Police Chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Mamozai acknowledged ups and downs in crime rate and urged people’s cooperation to eliminate miscreants.
He said resolving disputes and finding resolution to all problems needed people’s cooperation with security organs.
He said currently 1,000 police officials deployed in Parwan maintained security and another 3,000 policemen were needed to improve the law and order situation.
