قومي مشران: د مطيع الله خان وژنه بايد دقيقه وڅېړل شي

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Tribal elders and civil society activists from central Uruzgan province on Tuesday claimed influential police chief Matiullah Khan had not been killed in a suicide attack, but he was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Kabul hotel.
Addressing a press conference in Kandahar City, the elders and activists from Uruzgan warned they would launch a series of protests if the government did not accurately investigate Khan’s murder.
Sources had said Matiullah Khan was killed by a burqa-clad suicide bomber in Kabul about a week back.
Samiullah Sharafat, one of the elders from Uruzgan, said they arrived in Kandahar to address a press conference because a fewer number of journalists existed in their home province.
He said though Kabul police claimed Matiullah Khan had been killed in a suicide attack, but seeing his body revealed he had been shot in the chest.
“We have checked security cameras at the Safi Landmark hotel. The cameras show someone calls out Matiullah Khan at 7:00pm and he left. He was not a common man to be called out and meet someone,” he said.
The elder said there were no signs on Matiullah’s body showing it was a suicide attack that killed him. Even his clothes, documents and cell phones were not damaged, he said.
A civil society activist, Javed Khpalwak, said Matiullah Khan had been active trying to provide all equipment to police and financially supporting residents in getting education and healthcare besides maintaining security in the province.
Matiullah Khan, 43, was born in Tarinkot, the provincial capital. He was a nephew of former governor Jan Muhammad Khan, a close ally of former president Hamid Karzai. Khan leaves behind four brothers, three wives, eight sons and six daughters.
