IEC staff blamed for massive rigging in Bamyan

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A number of Independent Election Commission (IEC) employees in central Bamyan province were accused of seeking votes for a particular candidate.

Voters said the IEC staff in Lalakhel area on the outskirts of provincial capital was forcing voters at polling sites to cast their ballots for a certain candidate. Photos taken by Pajhwok reinforce the claims.
Mohammad Ali, a voter in the locality, said: “An IEC employee told me to vote for a particular candidate but I cast my vote in favour of my own choice.”
The IEC employees mostly misled illiterate voters who were unaware of the process, he added.
Election staff did not allow journalists to enter polling stations to observe the situation, he noted.
But Aziz Ahmad Rassouli, the IEC provincial director, said he had no report of rigging committed by his staff.
