Presidential campaign hots up in south, east

LASHKARGAH/JALALABAD/ASADABAD (Pajhwok): As the April 5 elections draw closer, the presidential race has gained momentum, with candidates wooing voters in several provinces of the country on Monday.
Huge public gatherings were held in different provinces in support of Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf, Mohammad Shafiq Gul Agha Sherzai and Zalmai Rasoul.
A large number of people from different tribes, including Alizai, Baloch and Noorzai, gathered in southern Helmand province and announced their support to Ahmadzai.
Similarly, some 500 people met in support of Sayyaf in the Greshk district of Helmand. They hailed Sayyaf as a patriotic jihadi leader, with an enlightened worldview.
Supporters of Sherzai held a big public meeting in the Nawa district of the same province. They pledged to vote in favour of the ex-Nangarhar governor.
Two separate gatherings were held in support of Ahmadzai and Abdullah in eastern Kunar province. Hundreds of Manogai and Noor Gal district residents praised Abdullah as the right person to lead the country.
In addition, the Momand tribes-people from 11 districts of Nangarhar province announced casting their votes in favour of Rassoul -- a former foreign minister and one the leading runners.
