Abdullah to boost transit trade thru Badakhshan

KABUL (Pajhwok): in a visit to Badakhshan, presidential hopeful Dr. Abdullah has promised to develop the northeastern province if he won the upcoming vote, officials said Monday.
Abdullah told thousands of supporters in Faizabad he would construct a dam and step up trade activity in Badakhshan, which would be transformed into a major transit route.
In case of his election victory, construction work on the Silk Road would resume and transit trade through Badakhshan would be boosted, he added.
Separately, hundreds of people in Shiberghan -- the capital of northern Jawzjan province -- vowed support to the Abdullah team for the sake of reforms and unity.
Khirullah, one of the participants, said the presidential runner had been his friend since the jihad era and his leadership could pull the country out of trouble.
At another gathering, the people of Nimroz province assured Abdullah of support at the April 5 polls. Resident Sakhi Ahmad said Abdullah had the ability to tackle challenges, hoping he would give a key role to mujahideen.
