SHARAN (Pajhwok): Seventy-five additional polling sites have been set up in southeastern Paktia province, where tight security measures have been put in place for Saturday’s runoff election, an official said on Friday.
The required materials had been dispatched to all polling stations across the province, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Zabihullah Wagari said: “Election workers have already been sent to polling stations in far-flung areas. Ballot papers and other materials have also been supplied to the sites.”
He said 75 more polling stations would open to facilitate voters in remote areas. People of the province had demonstrated great enthusiasm during the April 5 ballot and they were ready to go to polling stations with the same zeal, he added.
The second round of the presidential election would be held in a fair and transparent manner, he promised, saying strict security had been put in place to ensure orderly voting.
Brig. Gen. Nabi Jan Mullahakhel, the provincial police chief, said an inclusive strategy had been worked out for bolster security of voters and polling sites throughout the province.
